I'm just baffled by this... around here, if a person tells the police that they're in a dangerous situation the police have to help. I don't understand this at all... if she were an adult woman claiming spousal abuse, would they just sit on their hands and wait until she turned up dead? That has gotten police departments sued.
Have you spoken to a lawyer? I know that most people these days don't have two nickles to rub together, but many lawyers will do free consultations with no fee unless they win a case for you, and there may be something that they can help with. Perhaps they can find something in the laws where your daughter-in-law lives that the police have forgotten about or don't pay much attention to? Oftentimes, people will really start to scurry to get their jobs done right if they think not doing so will cost them money.
What is with all the adults so horribly failing children??? I'm just disgusted because I've read too many stories about failing children in the last few days...

Hi Diana,
Is this about your step-daughter? Is the situation getting worse?
I'm asking a few others for suggestions. Hopefully other members will be able to weigh in with some advice to help her.
Unfortunately, short of having her hide a video camera to get some proof of the abuse, I still haven't come up with anything else that might help. Have you checked into BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse... I posted the link in your last blog post) to see if they might be able to help in some way?
I can't believe so many people are dropping the ball with regard to this girl. Where I live, reports of abuse have to be followed up on. Police departments have been sued over that sort of inaction.
I'll let you know if I come up with anything that might be helpful, and will pray for her in the mean time.

I'm the same way... only I can imagine that it's worse for you, having actually been there *and* being a very sensitive person to boot.
One thing I can tell you is that if you aren't careful about it, it will overwhelm you and yo...
