PACA: Pagans Against Child Abuse

A place for people who oppose child abuse.

This is basically a follow-up on the Predators Among Us post I did earlier this month.

In a comment to that post, I suggested that people alert networks that they're mutual members of with any known predators to the presence of those predators (in this case, Dagmar specifically). I was a member of 4 networks that Dagmar was a member of, so I alerted the owners of all 4 of those sites. 3 out of 4 of those sites chose to immediately ban Dagmar from their sites after reading the piece linked above. I think they deserve an honorable mention here, if for no other reason than that they obviously care more about member safety than member numbers:
PaganMystics Community
iPeace
The Witches' Garden

The fourth site has chosen to ignore the information almost entirely.

While that is entirely their choice, the thing that bothers me about this is that their site is supposedly set up to promote protection of children and other loved ones.

Just in case the type is too small to read on that screenshot, here are the network descriptions posted on the main page:
"Over 800,000 children are reported missing each year, just in the U.S.A. We all can do something to protect them, Save Time & Save Lives!"
And in the center:
"You were invited to this site by Roger & Pamela Foulks of Achievements UnLimited Companies, or by another person on our Emergency Response Team. We are seriously looking for help with this important project across the U.S.A. at this point. We ask you to take a close look. You are needed to help with the missing children, missing elders, missing pets problem. This is a Training Site for our entire Emergency Response Team. If you are new, you are invited to place your personal profile on this site as an introduction of yourself. We will want to speak with you and see if you are right for our Life-Saving Team."

Upon first glance, this appears to be a site that is dedicated to the safety and protection of children, elders, and pets. The first description actually shows more of a focus on children. Roger and Pamela appear to be a very noble pair to have put so much time and effort into setting up such an endeavor.

I actually came across this site while I was checking into the list of networks that Dagmar was a member of. I felt it was important to alert the owners of this network to the presence of a predator on their site. I joined only for this purpose, as I wouldn't have time to dedicate to their project.

DF initial email to R&P 5/14

I quickly received this response:
R&P response to initial email 5/14

I sent two follow-up emails from my gmail account, because Ning's mail system doesn't allow for the kind of space I needed to include all the information I had. I received no response from them, so I sent this:
DF response to R&P after no response to follow-up 5/16

They still did not respond in any way. After I posted the "Predators Among Us" discussion, I sent the link to the owners of all four networks that Dagmar and I were mutual members of. Of the four sites, the Pagan Community, the Peace Activism site, and the Pagan Gardening Community all banned her immediately upon reading the information. Please note that not one of those sites is about individual or child safety. But the site based on safety chose not to act on the information.
DF to R&P re Expose 6/7

When they didn't respond to my email about the post, I sent a second one:
DF to R&P re Expose 6/12

When I still received no response either way, even to let me know they had received my emails, I decided to leave a post on their page:
DF post to R&P after no response 2 6/15

And got this response:
R&P response to DF's post 6/16

I guess they couldn't justify completely ignoring a post to their page, since everyone could see it. And simply deleting such a message would just look bad.

But here's what really bothers me about this...

Even before I posted the "Predators Among Us" discussion and sent them the link, I reported a bot on their site to them:
"Latest Activity" showing TS joining network 5/26
DF to R&P re TS 5/26

To which I received an immediate response:
R&P response to DF re TS 5/26

And they very immediately alerted their membership to the fact that they acted so quickly on this enormous problem:
R&P to All Members re TS 5/26

So, the only conclusion I can come to is that membership numbers matter far more to the owners of this "safety" oriented site than member safety.

To them, the peace of mind that members feel when they know that the "bot problem" is being handled is much more important than the peace of mind members might feel knowing that a child predator has been banned from this site which stresses child safety on it's network description. And leaving the predator on their site to keep member numbers up is preferable to getting rid of a potential fundraiser to expand their money making opportunities overseas.

In fact, as I typed this post, I received an email alert to another bot posting on my page on that site:

I guess we'll see how quickly they respond to that email from me...
